Pastor Nate brings the message, "Jesus Above All." In Mark 9:1-13, we see the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain and a voice from heaven declaring Him to be the Beloved Son. Clearly, Jesus' exalted status is being proclaimed, but it's Peter who unknowingly says that Jesus is on par with Elijah and Moses. How often do we fail to see Jesus' glory and then place Him right alongside (or below) other good things?
Pastor Andy brings the message, "Identity and Mission" from Mark 8:27-9:1. Mark 8:29 is the watershed moment of the gospel: Peter confesses Jesus is the Messiah. The disciples finally understand Jesus' identity. Immediately, Jesus begins to reveal his mission. With the disciples, we will begin to see Jesus' identity and mission as inseparable. And his identity and mission have ramifications on the cost of discipleship.
Pastor Luke brings the message, "The Power of the Church" from Acts 12. There are times when it seems like the church will be snuffed out like a struggling flame, or that the oppression and persecution will grow to a point when the darkness will overcome it. Yet, we are reminded in Acts 12 that the power of the church does not rest in the people of the church, but in the object of their faith.
This message is from Hebrews 13:20-21. At the close of the Hebrews “sermon” the preacher/author encourages us that endurance is not a matter of our human strength, but a matter of God’s strength. This truth is extremely important. The Christian mantra is not taken from the little blue engine that could (“I think I can”), but from the Bible which teaches us…”I know God can.”
This message is from Hebrews 13:7-17. Individualism and self-autonomy are the high-waving flags of Western culture. And on the flip side, submission and obedience are seen as signs of weakness, even oppression. But that’s where Christ’s Church offers a clear alternative to our world. God, in His wisdom, has given the Church a measure of structure that is fundamentally good and it involves obeying your church leaders. How far does pastoral authority go in the church? What kind of authority do church leaders have? What are the checks and balances?
This message is from Hebrews 12:12-17. We’ve seen that running the course of the Christian life requires faith that God exists. We now reach a section where we must believe that God’s commands about life are real and best. And what does He command us to do that is best? Pursue peace with everyone and holiness.
This message is from Hebrews 12:3-11. We can see the loveless attitude of parents who never correct their children from sinful behavior. We can see apathy when they remain too busy to walk with their children through difficult circumstances. But not God! He loves His children and will do what it takes to grow us in holiness.
