Pastor Nate brings the message, “Protecting Unity with the Lord’s Supper” - Part 1, from 1 Corinthians 11:17-22. We are returning back to chapter 11 for the next two weeks and studying the unity of the local church around the Lord's Table. The problem was that the Corinthians were so wrongfully divided that their practice of the Lord's Supper was actually invalidated. There are crucial lessons to learn and practices to apply within this important passage so that our church reflects Biblical, God-honoring unity.
The Importance of Love
Pastor Stephen brings the message, "The Importance of Love" from 1 Corinthians 12:28-13:1-8a. Scripture is filled with many beautiful passages that seem to be made for coffee mugs and decorative posters, and 1 Corinthians 13 could certainly fit into that category. But within this wonderful passage about love is also a difficult call - to live a life that models that beauty consistently in the world around us. So on Sunday, we'll not only talk about the beauty of biblical love, but also about the high calling this love places on our lives.
Belonging and Being the Body of Christ
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Belonging and Being the Body of Christ” from 1 Corinthians 12:12-27. The human body is a work of Creative Genius. Its connectivity and interdependence has the best doctors and researchers regularly amazed. God has so designed the church to be a body in its own way with each person being interdependent with others to live the Christian life.
The Spirit's Unity in the Church's Diversity
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Spirit’s Unity in the Church’s Diversity” from 1 Corinthians 12:1-13. In our Christian "circles" we tend to minimize the Spirit of God. It might be that we've over-reacted to bad theology elsewhere, and are now missing the important role of the Spirit. However, it's crucial for every Christian to see that only by the Spirit can we truly be saved and united in Christ.
(We'll come back to the second half of chapter 11 in a few weeks).
Headship, Hair, and Cultural Expressions
The Good of Others, The Glory of God
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Good of Others, The Glory of God” from 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1. How we view others might be the strongest indicator of how we view God. As we conclude another section in 1 Corinthians, God's Word helps us see that a God-glorifying life follows the example of Jesus who poured out His life for the good of others.
The Great Escape
Run by Participating with Christ
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Run by Participating with Christ” from 1 Corinthians 10:1-22. The Christian life is sometimes metaphorically described as a race. And, one of the very important gifts that God provides us in the race is participation with Christ. This message looks at how the Christian life is energized by fellowship with our Savior.
Cultural Adaptability, Gospel Solidarity
The Loving Way to be Right - Part 2
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Loving Way to be Right” - Part 2 from 1 Corinthians 9:1-18. We've all experienced the know-it-all who has to get his or her way. You don't find much peaceful unity around that person. This week God's Word helps us see the right way to be right. A gospel-driven love and humility will act for the well-being and good of others.
The Loving Way to be Right
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Loving Way to be Right’ from 1 Corinthians 8. Have you ever been around the kind of person who always has to be right? Even if he/she is right, they demonstrate the wrong way to be right. In the end, they are repugnant and people are polarized. Do Christians ever struggle with the battle to be right? In our new section of 1 Corinthians, God's Word gives us a path forward on how to be right through the practice of Christ-like sacrificial love.
Thriving in Christian Singleness
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Thriving in Christian Singleness” from 1 Corinthians 7:25-40. Do we put Christian marriage on a higher pedestal than Christian singleness? Is that how God thinks of singleness? In this message we finish the section (chapters 5-7) pertaining to marriage and singleness by seeing how God plans for Christian singles to thrive.
Grow Where You Are
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Grow Where You Are” from 1 Corinthians 7:17-24. Is it a challenge to be content with your lot in life? It is easy to glance side to side, see the prizes that God has given to others, and wish we could have what they have. In this section of chapter 7, God calls us to realize that we ultimately have the greatest of gifts already so that we can thrive wherever He has placed us.
Single, Married, Divorced...To the Glory of God
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Single, Married, Divorced…To the Glory of God” from 1 Corinthians 7:8-16. It's amazing how sufficient the Word of God is concerning each area of life. As we continue in our study of 1 Corinthians 7, Paul shows us how to live for the glory of God no matter what relationship status we find ourselves in.
The Bible, Sex, and Marriage
For the Glory of God
Pastor Nate brings the message, "For the Glory of God” from 1 Corinthians 6:12-20. What would you say is your purpose in life? Do you realize that no matter where you are or what you've done, God still gives you purpose to carry out? In a passage that starts with correction concerning sexual immorality, Paul leads us to the important principle that Christ bought us so that we might live for the glory of God.
Be Who Christ Saved You to Be
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Be Who Christ Saved You to Be” from 1 Corinthians 6:1-11. Are there ever any disputes between Christians? Yep! Disagreements happen. But, God has a plan that does not include taking your brother to court. Instead, be who Christ saved you to be: a selfless follower of Him who will humbly get help from those in the church to settle the problem.
Do What's Right, Not What's Easy
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Do What’s Right, Not What’s Easy” from 1 Corinthians 5. In returning to our study of 1 Corinthians we come to chapter 5 where Paul instructs the church on how to respond to egregious sin from one of its members. The removal of a church member due to sin is never easy or convenient, but it is necessary in order to pursue purity in the church.
A Powerful Weakness
Pastor Nate brings the message, "A Powerful Weakness” from 1 Corinthians 4:9-21. The first section of Paul's letter comes to a close with a climactic statement that the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. In other words, the measure of a person's walk with God is not determined by what he says but by the power of God at work in his life.
Servants and Stewards
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Servants and Stewards" from 1 Corinthians 4:1-5. In our study of 1 Corinthians, we've seen that there have been weird loyalties in the church to leaders like Paul, Apollos, and Peter. Certainly not helpful to the unity of God's people, then or now! As he closes out this first section of the letter, Paul shows us what leaders in the church are to be: servants of Christ and stewards of God. But then, doesn't that sound like the role for all Christians?
