The first section of Paul's letter comes to a close with a climactic statement that the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. In other words, the measure of a person's walk with God is not determined by what he says but by the power of God at work in his life.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Servants and Stewards" from 1 Corinthians 4:1-5. In our study of 1 Corinthians, we've seen that there have been weird loyalties in the church to leaders like Paul, Apollos, and Peter. Certainly not helpful to the unity of God's people, then or now! As he closes out this first section of the letter, Paul shows us what leaders in the church are to be: servants of Christ and stewards of God. But then, doesn't that sound like the role for all Christians?
In Ephesians 1:9-10 we see that God's plan is to establish Jesus as the unifying head of all things in heaven and earth. As we apply this message there is reason to praise God for His grace as well as reflect on direction of our own lives. Are we living by faith under the headship of Jesus? What does that look like?
The last 16 chapters of Exodus major on the tabernacle. You might wince at the thought of working through this section. Not so with Israel...they were stoked that God would be at the center of their camp. We'll look at Exodus 25:1-9 and briefly study the tabernacles's purpose for Israel and see how Jesus fulfills the tabernacle/temple purpose in our lives today.
With North Korea to the west of us and terrorists to the east, war always appears inevitable. Jesus says that we should love our enemies. Does this mean that Christians are to be pacifists? As we look to the Scriptures, we'll draw some conclusions that should help us think more clearly about this particular issue.
