Pastoral Assistant - Children’s Ministry/Counseling

OVERVIEW
The assistant pastor who oversees counseling and children’s ministries typically requires 45 hours per week. The busiest season in the summer can lead to weeks in excess of 50 hours.
The Job Description includes 2 sections: PRIMARY AREAS OF OVERSIGHT and SECONDARY AREAS OF OVERSIGHT. It’s our goal that an incoming pastor would be able to use his gifts and strengths in a secondary area of the church body as well. Your secondary area of oversight could be something different than what is listed below along with the time allocations.
ACCOUNTABILITY
This role is accountable to the senior pastor, but more importantly and practically to the rest of the pastoral team.
PRIMARY AREAS OF OVERSIGHT
Children’s Ministry—Time allocation, 50%
Oversee all kids and respective ministries for infant through 6th grade. This includes, but is not limited to; Jr. Church, Sunday School, nurseries, TGP, and VBS.
Oversee and manage the volunteers of all children’s ministries. This includes recruiting, scheduling, training, and ensuring they have worked through the Safe Haven process. Additionally, this includes expressing gratitude for service.
Intentionally work at equipping parents to disciple their kids. This may include teaching classes, recommending resources, meeting with parents, sending emails, and much more.
Oversee background checks for all children’s ministry volunteers.
Oversee the children’s ministry budgets and offer recommendations to the deacons as needed.
Oversee the summer Vacation Bible School, which involves 60-70 volunteers and nearly 200 children. This will
involve selecting teachers and volunteers, organizing those who are serving, and be actively involved in the up-
front portion of VBS.
Oversee curriculum decisions, ensuring that we have the most suitable material.
Oversee The Gospel Project, the Wednesday night children’s program. Primarily, this happens through working
with the current leaders of this ministry to help improve it.
Organize, purchase, and print necessary supplies and materials to ensure teachers and volunteers have all the
resources they need. This happens weekly.
Become familiar with Church Teams and work toward greater use of the database for this ministry.
Be present down the children’s hallway each Sunday, serving, connecting with families, and being available for
the volunteers. Additionally, be present on Wednesday’s during all children’s ministries.
Counseling Ministry—Time allocation, 30%
Oversee Grace Counseling.
Develop relationships with Love In Action to establish a pipeline of future counselees.
Develop more counselors (men and women) who can use their gifts to serve the church and the community.
Counsel cases in and outside the church.
Membership Care—Time allocation, 15%
Pursue and develop ways to integrate new visitors into Lakeshore.
Pursue and develop ways to help new members get plugged into the church.
Intentionally help with membership care at large.
SECONDARY AREAS OF OVERSIGHT—Time allocation, 5%
Serve in the Sunday service (when available).
Be part of the quarterly teacher rotation for Sunday adult classes (when available).
Occasionally preach in Sunday service.
Participate in pastors’ and staff meetings.
