Meet Pastor Nate and Our Leadership Team
Nate Birkholz has pastoral ministry in his blood. His dad was, and still is, a Baptist pastor and both of his brothers are in pastoral ministry. He did his undergraduate work Clearwater Christian College then studied at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary. He invested six years in the youth of Lakeshore then stepped into the senior pastor role in the summer of 2013. He is a strong expositional preacher and very much a shepherd pastor. His wife, Kris, is his best friend and they have four young children, Adrianna, Natalie, Owen, and Seth. Learn more about Nate’s teachings in the Pastor’s Blog.
Mike Schaap has been on staff the longest of anyone. He came to Lakeshore in 1986 working with the youth and eventually assumed responsibility for worship and music. His wife, Cindy, is very involved in music along with several others of his immediate family. Mike is a devoted lay-pastor who works in the business world during the week and gives of himself sacrificially to the work of the church on top of everything else. Mike and Cindy have three children and six grandchildren.
Wayne Muri came to Lakeshore in 1988 as a pastor and counselor after spending 17 years on a large church staff in Minneapolis. Since handing the reins over to Pastor Nate he has devoted himself to discipleship and providing pastoral counseling both to church families and referrals from Love Inc. He and his wife, Ev, have two grown sons.
Dave Sides has been at Lakeshore since 1986. Dave has served in children and youth ministries, in music, as a deacon, treasurer, and an ABF teacher. On August 21, 2016 the church recognized Dave as a lay-pastor. Though he will continue his day job as a CPA, he is a regular voice on the pastor team and continues to serve in many areas of the church. Dave loves sports of all kinds, but he and Lori especially love the time they are able to spend with their four children and one grandchild.
Andy Jaspers has special ties to Lakeshore. His dad was on the pastoral staff here when Andy was a youth. Andy graduated from Virginia Beach Theological Seminary and moved back to Grand Haven to assume responsibility for the youth and children’s ministries. Andy and his wife, Ashley, have two children, Cora and Graham.
Luke Bylsma and his wife, Karin, both have roots at Lakeshore. They grew up here, went away for seminary, and have since returned for Luke to serve as an assistant pastor. Luke oversees the Small Group ministry and the Adult Bible Fellowships. Luke and Karin have three children, Hailey, Ian, and Judson.
